GENERAL QUESTIONS
General information about IT Guys and what we do.
Where are you located?
IT Guys Custom PC Builds is based in Dubuque, Iowa. Contact us before stopping by so we can make sure someone is available to help with your build, repair or upgrade.
What services do you offer?
We focus on custom PC builds, diagnostics, repairs, maintenance, component upgrades and practical hardware guidance for gaming, content creation, workstations and everyday computer use.
Do you only work on gaming PCs?
No. Gaming systems are a major part of what we do, but we also build and service PCs for creators, work, school, streaming and general use.
How do I contact IT Guys?
The easiest way to start is through the Contact page. Tell us whether you need a custom build, repair, upgrade or advice and include as much detail as you can.
Do I need an appointment?
Contacting us first is recommended, especially for diagnostics or repair drop-offs. That lets us confirm availability and make sure we understand what you need before you bring the system in.
What are your hours?
Availability can vary, so reaching out before you stop by is the best option. We’ll confirm when someone is available and the best time for your visit or drop-off.
Can you help if I’m not sure what service I need?
Yes. Tell us what your computer is doing, what you want it to do better, or what you are trying to build. We can help determine whether a repair, upgrade, diagnostic visit, or custom build makes the most sense.
CUSTOM BUILDS
Questions about our custom PC builds and the build process.
How does the custom build process work?
We start with what you want the computer to do, your budget and any preferences you already have. From there we recommend a balanced parts list, assemble the system, test it and keep you updated through the process.
Can you help me choose the right parts?
Yes. Choosing the right combination of CPU, GPU, memory, storage, cooling and power supply is a major part of the service. We focus on the performance you actually need rather than simply choosing the most expensive components.
Do you offer prebuilt PCs?
At this time we are focusing on made-to-order custom systems rather than keeping shop-ready prebuilt PCs in inventory.
Can I provide my own parts?
In many cases, yes. Contact us with the parts you already have or plan to purchase so we can check compatibility and discuss any limitations before the build begins.
How long does a custom build take?
Timing depends on current workload and parts availability. We will give you the best current estimate when the build is planned and keep you informed if availability changes.
Do you build PCs for content creation or workstations?
Yes. Systems can be configured for editing, streaming, design, productivity and other workstation workloads as well as gaming.
Can you build around a specific budget?
Yes. We can plan the system around your budget and priorities, then balance the parts so you are spending money where it will make the biggest difference for how you use the PC.
REPAIRS & TROUBLESHOOTING
Questions about repairs, diagnostics and support.
What types of issues do you repair?
We troubleshoot a wide range of desktop PC problems including boot issues, instability, failed components, overheating, performance problems and upgrade-related issues.
How much do repairs cost?
Repair cost depends on the problem, the time required to diagnose it and whether replacement parts are needed. We prefer to identify the issue first instead of guessing at a flat price that may not fit the repair.
Do you offer diagnostic services?
Yes. Diagnostics are often the first step when the cause of a problem is not obvious. We work to isolate the actual fault before recommending replacement hardware.
How long do repairs usually take?
Turnaround varies with the problem, current workload and parts availability. Once the issue is identified we can give you a better idea of the repair timeline.
Can you help with upgrades?
Yes. We can help determine whether upgrades such as memory, storage, graphics, cooling or other components make sense for your current system.
Do you offer remote support?
Some software and configuration issues may be suitable for remote help, while hardware diagnostics and physical repairs generally require the system to be inspected directly. Contact us with the issue and we can tell you the best route.
Can you check whether my current PC is worth upgrading?
Yes. We can look at the hardware you already have, the performance you want, and the cost of meaningful upgrades before recommending whether upgrading or replacing the system makes more sense.
PAYMENTS & WARRANTY
Information about payment options, warranties and customer-supplied parts.
What payment methods do you accept?
Available payment methods can vary by the type of work being performed. Contact us before starting a build or repair and we will confirm the current options.
Do you offer financing?
Contact us for the current financing or payment options available for your project. We do not want to advertise an option that may change or may not apply to a particular order.
Do your builds come with a warranty?
Custom systems include the applicable manufacturer warranties on the components used. Any additional workmanship or service coverage will be explained with your build so you know exactly what is covered.
Are repair services covered by a warranty?
Coverage depends on the repair and the replacement parts involved. We will explain any applicable parts or service warranty when the repair is completed.
What if I purchase a part somewhere else?
We can often install customer-supplied components, but compatibility and condition matter. Contact us with the exact part and your existing system before purchasing whenever possible.
How does warranty support work if a component fails?
Contact us with the problem and we can help identify the affected component and the warranty coverage that applies. Manufacturer warranty terms vary by part and brand.
Will I know the cost before work moves forward?
We will explain the expected cost once the scope of the work is clear. If diagnostics are needed first, we will identify the issue before recommending the repair or replacement parts.
